Promethean Weaponry - Scattershot

As mentioned,  the Scattershot has been looked at a while ago, but here's what we know about it.

The Scattershot fires a direct beam of energy that kills personnel instantly. This close quarter power weapon can ricochet shots off hard surfaces, making a skilled user able to strike an opponent down without having a direct line of site to that opponent. Each 'clip' has enough energy for 5 charges before reloading, so if you miss at first you get 4 more attempts. Don't try taking on vehicles with the Scattershot as this weapon is not designed for anti-vehicular use. Scattershot's are used by Promethean Knights in the campaign, but in multiplayer they often become a favored weapon package/drop in infinity slayer.

The final item in this series is the Promethean Pulse Grenade, tune in tomorrow for more detials.

Promethean Weaponry - Incineration Canon

So, next up we have the Promethean Incineration Canon.

The Incineration Canon seems to fit into a niche within the Halo 4 weapon pool. Whilst it is designed as an anti-vehicular weapon, the projectile (several streams of particles) travels somewhat slowly to a target. But the impact when it hits makes this weapon extremely potent at consuming vehicles or unaware infantry targets.

Next on the menu, we will take a look at the Scattershot again.

Promethean Weaponry - Light Rifle

The next weapon we are going to look at is the Light Rifle, now this was mentioned earlier on in the year, but it doesn't hurt to refresh our memory.

The Light Rifle seems to be the best of both worlds in terms of allowing the user a burst fire 'mode' un-zoomed, then a more clinical longer range single zoom 'mode'. A bit more multi-purpose than it's counterparts, the light rifle fires hard-light projectiles and appears quite a versatile addition to your armaments. Each magazine/clip holds 15 rounds.

The next weapon we will look at in this series is the Incineration Canon.

Promethean Weaponry - Binary Rifle

Welcome to the third installment of Promethean weaponry. Today we are going to look at the Binary Rifle.

The Z-750 Binary Rifle is a devastating sniping tool. Whilst being able to reach enemies over very long distances, the sheer power of the rifle allows it to always kill an opponent in one hit, regardless of shot placement on the body. Typically used by Promethean Crawler Snipes and Promethean Knight Lancers  this weapon is the counterpart to the human and covenant sniper rifles. This powerful weapon holds 2 shots, hence that's why it is called binary, i suppose.

Next up will be the Light Rifle.

Promethean Weaponry - Suppressor

Welcome to the second installment of Promethean Weaponry. Today we are going to look at the Suppressor.

The Z-130 Suppressor is the Promethean's answer to the Assault Rifle and Storm Rifle. Firing hard-light projectiles the Suppressor dominates targets at close range due to its firing faster the longer the trigger is pressed. Having 50 rounds in a magazine this weapon allows the user a very reliable fall-back or secondary weapon to rely on.

Tune in tomorrow for a look at the Binary Rifle.

Promethean Weaponry - Bolt Shot

We now begin with a short series highlighting the Promethean weapons in Halo 4. Starting off with this little beauty, the Bolt Shot.

Essentially the Z-110 direct energy pistol is the Promethean counterpart to the Magnum Pistol and Plasma Pistol. However, it tends to operate as a close range weapon that sports a charged up shot feature, much like the Plasma Pistol and somewhat akin to the Mauler from Halo 3. As such the Bolt Shot is devastating up close. Each magazine holds up to 10 rounds.

Tune in tomorrow for the next Promethean weapon, the Suppressor.

Halo 4 Map Walkthrough - Meltdown

So a second walkthrough in our series is the IGN team doing the walkthrough of Meltdown. A newly built Halo 4 map. Setup as a large figure-8 map this one is designed for large scale vehicular gameplay, whilst still being accessible to infantry, facilitated by dual purpose man-cannons, which are usuable by both players and vehicles. They also refer to this map as the 'Infinity Loop' because it's based off the PC map version.

Check it out:

So what are the first things you need to know about Ragnarok map itself? Well Halo 3 fans its the remake of the classic large map Valhalla, with new art details. Weapon placements have naturally changed due to the placement system. What about vehicles? you have warthogs, banshees, mongoose, ghost. But you also have the all new Mantis walker. Which is a very powerful new mech walker introduced into halo 4.

Halo 4 Armor Specializations

Well you've probably already heard about the new armor mods or perks which come from selecting a certain specialization.

There are currently around 8 specializations for Halo 4 that will grace your consoles this fall. But not having time to understand them fully, here is a link to IGN who breakdown very nicely and simply each specialization for you all to come to grips with.

Also only 2 of these specializations can be chosen from the moment you first start playing, a for the otheres the intention is really to extend the replayability and long life of Halo 4's multiplayer, whilst allowing you to try out different styles of play later on.

Halo 4 Forge RTX Video

So creative Halo 4 fans, this is the recent Halo 4 Forge demo video from RTX that introduces the new style forge mode for Halo 4 gamers to use.

For those wanting the scoop: the new forge includes various player trait zones allowing you to change things like gravity, damage reduction movement speed etc... and a few forge maps which will ship with the final release, rather than a single forge world in one big open area. Which is good news as it shouldn't take as long to load up.

Also they are introducing piece magnetism to Halo 4 forge. This basically kind of like anchor points we've all longed for, which allows you instant and automatically alignment of pieces together. Reducing the painstaking manual aligning required in Halo 3 and Reach, to achieve that seamless look.

Also pieces can be individually locked into place, rather than getting bumped out of the way as in previous instalments.

Longbow Warthog RTX Gameplay Video

So here's a very long 48 minute video of the guys at RTX playing on the Halo 4 map Longbow, with some great warthog action. They play three games and includes their team introductions.

Check it out:

The warthog chain gun appears not to overheat anymore which is great news. And it also catches on fire too. But still handles and reacts in the traditional fashion we know and come to expect from the game.

Mongoose - Halo 4

The Mongoose is an ATV transport that allows a driver and passenger to move very quickly over the terrain. Many suggestions of having linked weapons built on the Mongoose will never come to pass, as it is designed exclusively for transportation. Thus it provides the driver and passenger with no cover at all. However, being fast and nimble allows for effective evasion and simple run-bys, denying aggression due to leaving the enemy behind. For an interesting mix have a passenger equip a rocket launcher. The mongoose can also be used very effectively to carry an objective back to base.

Ghost - Halo 4

The Ghost is a covenant recon vehicle. However over the year many users have become highly effective at strafing around or away from targets in such a way to avoid damage but dish out plenty in return. Due to it's hovering over the ground the ghost can travel in any direction, and being equipped with dual cycling plasma cannons, which do not overheat, the driver can continue firing until his opponent falls.

Not to forget is the Ghosts ability to re-route power from its weapons to allow for a sustained boost function which can be used to traverse areas at great speed. This boost function has allowed notorious drivers the ability to ram nearby enemies down. Beware.

Halo 4 Limited Edition Xbox

If you are a real Halo nut then check out this Limited Edition Halo 4 Xbox 360 with controllers and headset. Now here is a true piece of gaming memorabilia for you to appreciate and enjoy. I'm loving the design and color scheme.

This was unveiled at the San Diego Comic-Con, officially designated the Xbox 360 Limited Edition Halo 4 console bundle. It perfectly celebrates the return of Master Chief in Halo 4. This includes everything you need to bring the Chief and the Halo mythology right into your home. It also stylishly announces the new trilogy that is set before us all.

Warthog - Halo 4

The classic jeep we all know as the Warthog will be in Halo 4, and from way back we could see how it looked if you obtained Forza 4 and viewed it. The designation is the M12 FAV "Warthog" (Force Application Vehicle). It comes equipped with the usual Light Anti-Aircraft Gun (LAAG).

Judging from what little we've seen in the videos of Halo 4 up until now, the Warthog will still travel and handle in the same fashion that we are used to. No official word whether the chain gun overheats, this remains to be seen.

Rest assured that the awesomeness will still remain, and smart users will be able to hold their own in this beloved beast. Personally I can't wait to give it a try.

Halo 4 Armor and Skins

Here is a post showing some gorgeous picture of the halo 4 armor we will be seeing: But if you want to see the whole Halo 4 gallery then click this link, otherwise just sit back and feast your eyes on this jaw dropping selection of images.

Forest Camo Skin on Hazop Armor, sweet!

I don't know if these images below are real, maybe someone could clarify, but they look cool anyway so I've added them.

Plasma Grenade - Halo 4

The covenant plasma grenade reduces shielding very effectively and possesses the ability to stick or cling to a target. Whether the target be a vehicle or person, once stuck the opponent is usually dead. These wonderful orbs of death fire up an electric blue color and are very easy to spot.Observe where they land and avoid as necessary.

Light Rifle - Halo 4

Light Rifle

The Light Rifle is akin to the Covenant Carbine or DMR. This forerunner weapon is a single shot carbine with a zoom function, and operates very much like the same as the Carbine and DMR. This precision rifle is used by Promethean Knights and is designed to hit an opponent at mid range. With it's head shot capability the Light Rifle is very accurate and very deadly. Carrying 15 shots in a magazine means you should take care not to waste ammunition.

*more exact stats when available

Scatter Shot - Halo 4

The Scatter Shot fires a direct beam of energy that kills personnel instantly. This close quarter power weapon can ricochet shots off hard surfaces, making a skilled user able to strike an opponent down without having a direct line of site to his opponent. Currently each 'clip' has enough energy for 5 charges before reloading, so if you miss at first you get 4 more attempts. Don't try taking on vehicles with the Scatter Shot as this weapon is not designed for anti-vehicular use. Scatter Shots are used by Promethean Knights in the campaign, but in multiplayer they often become a favored weapon package/drop in infinity slayer.

Covenant Carbine - Halo 4

Covenant Carbine

The Covenant Carbine is very similar to the Battle Rifle and particularly the DMR. Whilst firing only single shots, the carbine can be fired extremely quickly. And to say this covenant weapon breaks the mold is an understatement, as it doesn't use plasma based energy. Rather it fires an 8mm radioactive projectile Factoring in the high accuracy and head shot capability as well,  the carbine becomes a very effective mid-range threat. Whilst firing only 1 shot at a time the trigger can be hammered repeatedly to suppress nearby opposition equally as well.

Energy Sword - Halo 4

Energy Sword

The Covenant sword is a power weapon that kills with a single strike. The lunge feature allows for a quick locked-on attack that is almost unstoppable. The sword has limited energy, which depletes after each successful hit. The sword instills fear into opponents and allows combatants to run into close quarter engagements with near-impunity. If your enemy wields the sword, your best idea is to keep away at medium range and scope them down. More daring individuals tempt their fate in a sword vs shotgun. With perfect timing the shotgun can deny a sword lunge from the kill. Pretty handy, that.

Needler - Halo 4

Needler

The Needler is a scary weapon in open or contained spaces. Each shot is fairly weak on it's own, however once several shards strike a target, a super-combine explosion destroys it's victim. This lethal effect and the natural ability of the shards to home-in on their target, makes the Needler an effective short to mid-range power weapon, especially if used in areas with very little cover. The Needler's design remains the same. Being an automatic power weapon, however, means the user can hold down the trigger to launch a flurry of projectiles simultaneously.

Tuesday, 17 July 2012

Storm Rifle - Halo 4

Storm Rifle

The Storm Rifle is the spiritual successor to the Plasma Repeater, boxed in a more refined package. The longer barrel and better cooling mods allow for fully automatic fire for quick and accurate plasma suppression. Nearby enemies will evaporate to the ensuing barrage. As per all plasma based weaponry, overheating occurs from sustained use. The Storm Rifle is extremely effective at stripping a target of it's shields and finishing off what's left, especially in close quarter combat situations.

Monday, 16 July 2012

Plasma Pistol - Halo 4

The Covenants plasma pistol has been synonymous with grunts and jackals as their main users. Whilst being able to fill the air with several of these, as a solo user the secondary fire mode allows you to charge up a shot, which can eradicate shielding entirely. This charge shot has the inherent homing ability, which veers the projectile towards the intended target. Quite simply this weapon is weak when fired normally, but it's secondary function charge shot is devastating when used in combination with a Pistol or Battle Rifle.

Sticky Detonator - Halo 4

Sticky Detonator (Rocket Pistol)

The sticky detonator is a grenade-launcher-type weapon that allows the user to manually hold the trigger and detonate on command. Direct hits are lethal, but require a steady aim. Useful for setting up traps on weapon drops and key choke points. The sticky detonator has to manually load each round, before another one can be deployed.

Assault Rifle - Halo 4

Assault Rifle

The assault rifle is the bread and butter of the UNSC weapon pool, it is cheap to produce, and can fill the air with bullets. Use this for up close targets. It carries 32 rounds per magazine. But don't expect to be killing enemies at much longer distances as there are plenty of other options to choose from. The AR is best used as a starting point, then switched out as a secondary fallback weapon.

Magnum Pistol - Halo 4

Magnum Pistol

The magnum is the primary issue sidearm of the UNSC. However do not take this weapon lightly, as it really packs a punch. With 12 rounds in each magazine extended fighting is not recommended. However when more precise firing is required the 2x optical zoom, coupled with head shot capability, will ensure a quick kill for close and mid-range targets. Equally as a fallback weapon the pistol can be quickly swapped in combat, if primary ammunition is scarce.

Fragmentation Grenade - Halo 4

Fragmentation Grenade

The fragmentation grenade is your standard issue ball of death, also affectionately know as a 'Pineapple'. Skilled users can predict enemy movement (or lack of) and will ricochet off walls and obstacles in such a fashion that the grenade will land almost perfectly at the targets' feet. Grenades are used well against groups of aggressors to 'soften' them up, or to strip a single opponent of shields, prior to finishing them off with a precisely executed head shot.

Spartan Laser - Halo 4

Spartan Laser

The spartan laser is the deadliest beam action weapon in the UNSC. Paint a target, hold the trigger to charge for two seconds and just watch vehicles disappear. Skillful users are able to take down enemy infantry aggressors at short, mid and long range. The laser also has a 3x zoom function for more precise targeting. Due to the enormous levels of power used, the laser's energy cell depletes after 5 shots.

Sniper Rifle - Halo 4

Sniper Rifle

The sniper rifle is still the master of range. And with 4 bullets per magazine you will not be short of opportunity to deal death across the field of battle . However you will need steady hands to obtain those important head shots. 5x and 15x zoom optical scope included. Only skilled users allowed...

Rocket Launcher - Halo 4

Rocket Launcher

The rocket launcher is the support weapon of choice. The dual barrel tubes allow the operator two shots before reloading. New ordnance leaves behind a white smoke trail, so beware that your location is betrayed. But with this weapon in your hands, you will remain in control of the immediate area and can easily defy enemy infantry and vehicle aggressors as well. The explosive radius of each shot is not to be underestimated, danger of back-firing.

Designated Marksman Rifle - Halo 4

Designated Marksman Rifle - DMR

Very similar to the battle rifle, but much more clinical in it's execution, the DMR fills the gap for a short-mid to mid- long range rifle. Boasting a single round shot means the user ideally wants to pick of distance targets rather than any nearby antagonist. The DMR is a precision rifle for those who lean more towards the sniper side of the action, with a zoom and head shot capability. Having 15 rounds per magazine makes the DMR stopping power and sustainability during combat high. Some soldiers have been known to spam the trigger on closer targets to surprisingly good effect.

Battle Rifle - Halo 4

Battle Rifle

The Battle Rifle is the go-to weapon of choice for short to mid-range engagements. Due to it's semi-automatic burst fire and head shot capability, this accurate firearm is an extremely deadly firearm. Proving to be superior to the assault rifle and much more versatile, the battle rifle is the prefered weapon for just about any engagement. Each magazine holds 36 round, giving the user 12 three-round burst for sustained firepower. The optical scope allow for a 4x zoom for distance hits and head shots.

Current Weapon List For Halo 4

These are the currently known weapon we can deduce from all the videos and off the official Halo 4 website, forgive me if some names are slightly wrong, this will be updated as soon as possible. Feel free to post comments about these weapons too. As it all helps.

So far confirmed are the following weapons (and grenades)

UNSC Arsenal:

Assault Rifle

The assault rifle is the bread and butter of the UNSC weapon pool, it is cheap to produce, and can fill the air with bullets. Use this for up close targets. It carries 32 rounds per magazine.

Magnum Pistol

The primary sidearm weapon of the UNSC, the Manum Pistol is great at short to mid range and can easily overwhelm a non-shielded opponent. With 12 bullets per magazine this sidearm can be switched to when a primary weapon runs out of ammunition, to finish the job as it were.

Sticky Detonator (Rocket/Grenade Pistol)

The sticky detonator is a grenade launcher type weapon that allows the user to manually hold the trigger and detonate on command. Direct hits are lethal, but require a steady aim. Useful for setting up traps on weapon drops and key choke points.

Battle Rifle

The Battle Rifle is the go-to weapon of choice for short to mid range engagements, due to it's semi-automatic burst fire and head shot capability, this accurate firearm is a deadly combination. Proving to be superior to the assault rifle and much more versatile the battle rifle is the prefered weapon for just about any engagement. Each magazine sports 36 bullets, giving the user 12 three-round burst for sustained firepower.

DMR Designated Marksman Rifle

Very similar to the battle rifle, but much more clinical in it's execution, the DMR fills the gap for a short-mid to mid- long range rifle. Sporting a single fire action means the user ideally wants to pick of distanced targets rather that a nearby antagonist. The DMR is a precision rifle for those who lean more towards the sniper side of the action. Having 15 rounds per clip means the stopping power and sustainability during combat is high.

Rocket Launcher

The rocket launcher is the support weapon of choice. A dual tube barrel allows two shots before reloading is required. New ordnance leaves behind a white smoke trail, so beware that your location is betrayed. But with this weapon in your hands, you will remain in control of the immediate area and can easily defy enemy vehicle aggressors.

Sniper Rifle

The sniper rifle is still the master of range. And with 4 bullets per magazine you will not be short of opportunity to reign death on the enemy. However you will need steady hands to obtain those important head shots. Only skilled users allowed...

Spartan Laser

The spartan laser is the deadliest beam action weapon in the UNSC. Paint a target, hold the trigger to charge for two seconds and just watch vehicles disappear. Skillful users are able to take down enemy infantry aggressors at short, mid and long range.

Fragmentation Grenade

The fragmentation grenade is your standard issue ball of death. Skilled users can predict enemy movement (or lack of) and will ricochet off walls and obstacle to land a perfect grenade at their feet.

Covenant Weapons:

Plasma Grenade

The covenant plasma grenade reduces shielding very effectively and possesses the ability to stick or cling to a target. Whether the target be a vehicle or person, once stuck the opponent is usually dead.

Plasma Pistol

The standard plasma pistol is weak on its own, but if lots of these fire at you then take cover quickly. The party piece of this weapon is its secondary fire over-charged shot, which can eradicate a target's shields entirely. The combo of draining shields and then killing the target with a head shot via a Magnum or Battle Rifle may be considered cheap, but proves highly effective.

Storm Rifle

The Storm Rifle is the spiritual successor to Plasma Repeater, yet more refined. The longer barrel and better cooling mods allow for fully automatic quick and accurate plasma suppression. Nearby enemies will evaporate to the ensuing barrage. As per all plasma based weaponry, overheating occurs from vigorous use.

CovenantCarbine

The Covenant Carbine is very similar to the Battle Rifle and DMR. Whilst firing only single shots, the carbine can be fired extremely quickly. Factoring in the high accuracy and head shot capability as well,  the carbine becomes a very effective short and mid-range weapon.

Needler

The Needler is a scary weapon in open or contained spaces. Each shot is fairly weak on it's own, however once several shards strike a target, a super-combine explosion destroys it's victim. This lethal effect and the natural ability of the shards to home-in on their target, makes the Needler an effective short to mid-range power weapon, especially if used in open spaces and internal areas with little cover.

Energy Sword

The Covenant sword is a power weapon that kills with a single strike. The lunge feature allows for a quick attack that is almost unstoppable. The sword has limited energy so can only be used for so long, although it is still very deadly non the less.

Forerunner Ordnance:

Scatter Shot

The Scatter Shot fires a direct beam of energy that kills personnel instantly. It is a close quarter power weapon that can ricochet off hard surfaces, making a precise user to be deadly without having a direct line of site with his opponent.
